Support Arts
The quiet pulse of magic that keeps six fighters standing when the continent tries to break them.
Support Arts are a subcategory of the Arts combat system in Tales of Arise, dedicated to healing, stat buffs, and party-wide utility rather than dealing direct damage. While Offensive Arts let characters unleash devastating elemental strikes, Support Arts are the quiet backbone that keeps the team alive, empowered, and functional across the game's demanding encounters.
In a party of six fighters spread across the four continents of Dahna, raw damage alone is not enough. Support Arts provide the sustain layer—restoring HP, raising attack or defense, boosting speed, and applying other tactical effects—that separates a struggling run from a confident one. They are the reason the group can push through multi-phase boss fights and survive the relentless pressure of enemy waves.

Lore & Background
In the world of Dahna, the same elemental currents that fuel a warrior's devastating strike can also be shaped into restorative warmth or a surge of protective force. Support Arts tap into that gentler aspect of the land's magic. For the people of Curun, where Dohalim was raised, healing and communal care are woven into daily life; her ability to channel restorative energy is not an exotic talent but an extension of her upbringing among a culture that values endurance and mutual protection.
Kyuuketsuki's support abilities, by contrast, reflect his role as a guardian and strategist. His arts lean toward empowering allies and reinforcing the party's defensive posture, fitting his personality as the one who watches the battlefield and ensures no one is left behind. Together, these two characters form the natural support core of the group, though other members can also learn or benefit from certain utility effects, creating flexibility in how a player composes their team.
Narratively, the reliance on Support Arts mirrors the story's central tension: the party is perpetually outnumbered, outgunned, and fighting across hostile territory. Without the healing and buffs that these arts provide, the group would simply not survive long enough to uncover the truth behind the four continents' suffering. The mechanic is, in a sense, a gameplay echo of the theme that survival depends on each member trusting the others.
In Their Own Story
The Curun wind pressed against Dohalim's cloak as the last of the enemy vanguard scattered into the dusk. Rhea's blade was still humming, a thin line of blood tracing her knuckles. Kyuuketsuki knelt beside Law, who had taken a blow meant for the whole line, and pressed his palm flat against the young man's shoulder. A low, steady glow bloomed between them—not the flash of an offensive art, but something slower, warmer, like a hearth-fire answering a cold. Law's breathing evened. He opened his eyes, saw the light fading, and gave a single, exhausted nod. Dohalim was already turning toward the next ridge, her own hands still faintly luminous, counting the ones who were still standing. Six. All six. She allowed herself a small breath before the next fight found them.
Reader's Guide
Support Arts are a type of equippable Art that, when activated, costs SP and applies a non-damaging effect to an ally or the whole party. Effects include restoring HP, raising a stat (attack, defense, or speed) for a duration, and providing other tactical utility. They sit in the same Arts slots as Offensive Arts, so every character must choose how to divide their limited loadout between damage and support.
Dohalim is the natural healer, with the deepest pool of restorative and protective arts, reflecting her Curun upbringing where communal care is central. Kyuuketsuki contributes buff-oriented support that reinforces the party's offensive and defensive posture, fitting his guardian role. Other members may access a smaller set of utility effects, giving you flexibility if you want to spread support duties.
Build tip: You do not need every character to carry a healing art. A common approach is to let Dohalim handle the bulk of healing and one or two key buffs, while Kyuuketsuki covers a complementary buff (such as an attack or speed boost) so the party is empowered before a boss phase. Keep at least one defensive or evasive utility art on a second character as a safety net, and reserve SP for support rather than spending it all on extra offensive casts. This way, when a multi-stage fight strips your HP, the party is not only healed but also buffed for the next burst of damage.
Did You Know?
- Support Arts and Offensive Arts share the same SP pool and the same equippable Arts slots, meaning every point spent on a buff or heal is a point not spent on an extra damage art—loadout choices are a genuine trade-off.
- Dohalim's healing role is rooted in her Curun background, where communal care and endurance are cultural values, making her support ability feel like an extension of her identity rather than a random skill.
- Kyuuketsuki's support arts lean toward empowering allies and reinforcing defense, which mirrors his in-story personality as the group's strategic guardian rather than its frontline striker.
- Because the party spans six characters and the game's encounters are designed around sustained pressure, a team that ignores Support Arts will find boss fights and multi-phase encounters dramatically more punishing than
